Urban Coastal Garden

Design Brief

A garden for urban dwellers to consider themselves always beside the seaside, with child-friendly pathways on stone, sand and wood throughout and several areas for entertainment, some with a sense of seclusion from the others.

The Challenge

A long and thin sloping site on a new-build development, directly overlooked on two sides.

The Design Solution

Gabions were constructed to create the terrace and raised beds that counteract the slope of the site.  Scottish pebbles, gravel, timber and painted fences were used to establish a cohesive coastal atmosphere, along with pleached hedges to screen the garden from neighbours. A modern summerhouse back-planted with golden bamboo creates an area with a degree of seclusion from the rest of the garden.
